Becoming a vegetarian is now easier than ever! There are so many yummy foods available - at almost every store - that kids have no trouble finding healthy, delicious stuff to eat. Some people "go veggie" all at once, but it's also okay to change your diet more slowly if you want. Do things at your own pace, and try to find support wherever you can. Even if there aren't any vegetarians in your family, there probably are in your community or school. With or without help, though, do the best you can. To get started, try following these steps:

  • Start the week with a "Meatless Monday." Even if you only start out being vegetarian one day a week, you will still improve your health and help animals!
  • Ask your parents if you can help cook on a regular basis and start eating vegetarian versions of your favorite dishes. Try a veggie burger instead of a hamburger or tofu instead of chicken in your stir-fry.
  • Order vegetarian food when you go out to eat.

Most importantly, enjoy yourself and feel good that you are making a big difference for farm animals and the world.
