Help the Animals! Help Animals at Home & In Your Community Check Out What Other Kids are Doing for Animals Here are some easy things you can do to help animals: . Educate Your Friends - Did you know that doing your homework can help animals? It's true! Not only can your papers, projects, and reports help you educate yourself, they can educate others too. Whenever you can, do projects on farm animal issues and teach your classmates the importance of compassion! Jump to our Farm Sanctuary Kids' "Learn" section to get started. . Get Veg Food in Your Cafeteria - Many schools don't offer many food choices for vegetarian or vegan students. But you can change that - at your school at least! If your school cafeteria could use a veggie upgrade, why not read up on the benefits of a plant based diet and then propose some new menu items for your school. Maybe your school could start offering soymilk in addition to cow's milk or veggie burgers as well as hamburgers! The yummy possibilities are endless!
. Help Classroom Animals - Does your teacher keep a rabbit or any
other kind of animal in a cage in your classroom? Or is your class
planning a chick-hatching project? If so, can you think of any ways
that you could help make these animals' lives better? Sadly, many
classroom animals are not properly cared for, and they grow sick,
lonely, frustrated, and depressed. Sometimes at the end of the school
year, these classroom animals have nowhere to go. If this is a problem
at your school, ask your teacher politely if you could stop having
animals in classrooms. And if that doesn't work, try to find homes
for classroom animals before summer rolls around. . Refuse to Dissect - Some schools still ask their students to dissect animals -including fetal pigs in the name of science. But don't feel silly or embarrassed if you don't want to do this. Lots of kids who love animals don't want to cut them up; they feel sad and sick when they think about it. And kids are right to feel sad about dissection. Many animals that end up in school classrooms to be dissected are raised in terrible conditions and suffer greatly throughout their lives. If your teacher asks you to dissect, tell him or her that you think it is wrong. Then, ask if you could fulfill the requirements of the class by doing an alternative project. Show everyone you know that farm animals are intelligent, sensitive creatures that deserve to be treated kindly. . Make your voice heard about farm animal issues! One of the best ways to do this is to write letters. You can write letters to your local newspaper, to your school or church, or to businesses in your community and let them know about animal issues that are important to you. The animals can't speak up for themselves - they need YOU!!! . Come volunteer at Farm Sanctuary in California or New York. See if your local library (or the library at your school) has display space available that you could use to create a display about farm animal issues.
