What is a Vegetarian?
The word vegetarian can mean different things to different people.
Most people who call themselves vegetarians do not eat any meat,
but may eat eggs and dairy. Strict vegetarians, also known as vegans,
are people who do not eat any foods that come from animals, including
meat, dairy or eggs. Many of these vegetarians also choose not
to wear leather, wool or other materials made from animals.
What Kind of People Become Vegetarian?
Almost anyone can become a vegetarian. In fact, there are already
millions of vegetarians in the world, and each one is very different
from the next. These days, the diet is so popular you may know
more vegetarians than you think. With a little investigation, you
might just find that you have a neighbor, relative, friend, or
even a classmate who doesn't eat meat. And don't forget about "the
stars." Recognize any of these well-known vegetarians?

Why Are People Vegetarian?
Many people give up meat, milk and eggs because they don't want to
hurt animals. Some stop eating animal foods because they want to
be healthier. Others choose to "go veg" because they
don't want to harm the Earth. Whatever their reasons are for changing
the way they eat, most vegetarians believe that eating plants instead
of animals makes the world a better place.
