Farm Sanctuary Kidz Club Meet The AnimalsLearnPlayHelp

In September and October, Farm Sanctuary members are taking compassion to the streets for our Walk for Farm Animals! Held in more than 60 cities across the country and in Canada, this event raises money for Farm Sanctuary that allows us to help even more animals. We'd love for Farm Sanctuary Kidz Club members to be there and proudly put one foot in front of the other for farm animals!

Getting Started
Although it's pretty easy to participate (and you'll receive a rad 2009 Walk shirt designed by our pals at Herbivore Clothing Company), remember to get your parent or guardian's approval before starting the registration process.

Once you register, you'll get to set up your very own fundraising Web page. But don't jump the gun! Scan the official Walk for Farm Animals Web site to find out:

• which Walk is nearest to you
. how to register
. how to get the most donations
. ways to promote the Walk (on Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking sites)
. what cool prizes those who raise the most money will win
. new updates on the "Walk Talk" blog

Fundraising
Your parents are a good starting point for the fundraising process. After all, they do give you an allowance or pay for fun things like movies and toys, so maybe they'll want to support your efforts to help animals. Here are some other kid-specific ways to fundraise:

. Ask your parents to tell their co-workers about your Walk, or better yet, have them bring you to work so that you can ask people in person.
. Ask your teacher, principal, bus driver, librarian, mentor, babysitter, and any other person you can think of for donations
. Get creative and brainstorm ways to generate money, like holding a car wash, bake sale, dog washing service, or other fundraising event. Maybe your local Boy Scouts group or dance troop would like to help out.
. Bring along a parent and go door-to-door, asking your neighbors for donations. That's exactly what Madison and her brother Liam did. Read their story below and get inspired! We hope you Kidz Clubbers can make it to a Walk near you! Good luck!

If They Can Do It, You Can, Too!
Farm Sanctuary Kidz Club members Madison and Liam Snow raised over $900 by participating in Farm Sanctuary's annual Walk for Farm Animals in San Francisco. On the day of the Walk, Madison and Liam laced up their running shoes and trekked through the city streets with other animal activists. And friends and family showed their support by offering a donation to Farm Sanctuary in the kid's names.

To get sponsors, the brother-sister duo scouted the neighborhood every day after school, looking for donations (with mom in tow for safety, of course!). "I'm walking for the farm animals. Would you like to be my
sponsor?" the two said when neighbors' doors swung open. As their mom reported, it was pretty tough to say "no" to a greeting like that, so the kids successfully raised lots of money in no time at all.

But instead of stopping there, Madison and Liam put their next brilliant plan into motion by using the Internet to raise even more money. Each of them set up a Web site where friends and family could sponsor them. After just a few weeks, Madison had raised $526 and Liam had raised $412. All of that money went to help the animals at Farm Sanctuary's California and New York Shelters and teach people about how animals are treated on factory farms. Just imagine how many animals Madison and Liam helped save, just by going the extra mile for the Walk!
