Ducks & Geese Living Free

Ducks live in large flocks for several months of the year, and form pairs during breeding season. Once the females start sitting on their eggs, the males fly off together, but come back later when their ducklings hatch.

Ducks make very good mothers. In fact, a mother duck will even put herself in great danger to make sure her ducklings are kept safe.

Ducks love to be in the water, and the fact that they have webbed feet and waterproof feathers proves that that's where they belong. Even ducklings who are just hours old can already swim!

Geese also like to live in large flocks. Family is important to these birds and they normally choose partners for life.

Wild geese are very powerful fliers and can move with amazing speed high in the air.

Geese have a very good eyesight and hearing. They use both of these senses to protect the other members of their families.

Romeo and his friends were rescued from a public park in California. For almost ten years, he and his friends were harmed by humans, who cruelly killed 15 birds, including Romeo's lifelong mate Juliet, and injured many more. Sadly, the people who hurt these animals have never been caught, but thanks to a group of kind people who lived near the park, Romeo and his friends are now living in peace and safety at our California Shelter.
