Cows can recognize and respond to the names that humans give them. Cows are known to be able to remember good and bad events for at least three years. Cows have such good senses of smell that they can smell things up to six miles away. Mother cows separated from their calves by a fence will moo loudly and be very upset. They'll wait through hunger, cold, and bad weather to be with their calves. Cows seem to form friendships. In any herd of cows, there are some who like to "hang out" together and others who always avoid each other. Cows can sense the lowering barometric pressure that indicates a storm is coming and will lie down after they sense it. Cows have a total of 32 teeth, all on the bottom of their mouths. Instead of teeth on the top of their mouths, they have a tough pad of skin. No two cows have exactly the same pattern of spots. There are 207 bones in a cow's body.
