Turkey

Turkeys originated in North and Central America, and evidence indicates that they have been around for more than 10 million years.

Wild turkeys can fly for short distances at up to 55 miles per hour. They can also run at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour.

Only male turkeys (toms) gobble. Female turkeys (hens) make clicking and trilling noises.

Mature turkeys have more than 3,500 feathers.

A wild turkey has excellent vision and hearing. Their field of vision is about 270 degrees.

In nature, wild turkeys spend their days foraging for food like acorns, seeds, small insects, and wild berries.

A female turkey can incubate as many as 18 eggs at a time. It takes about a month for the chicks to hatch.
